The call for papers is now out for our first EthnoConnection 2026 international conference on museology, to be held from 18 to 20 October 2026 at the Museum of Ethnography, Budapest. With this conference, we aim to establish a recurring platform for museum and cultural heritage professionals to discuss current topics in the field of museology. The title of this year’s meeting is “The Temptation of Permanence – A Critical Approach to Permanent Museum Exhibitions.”
After more than eight years of work, the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest opened its new permanent collection exhibition in 2024 within the new building of the 154-year-old institution. This large-scale display, featuring thousands of objects, documents, photographs, and audiovisual materials, confronted its curators with questions that pose significant challenges to any institution undertaking a similar project, regardless of disciplinary background. For this reason, we invite museum professionals from a wide range of fields to join a dialogue on the nature and future of permanent exhibitions.
